Off-road riding is arguably the most accessible form of cycling, with broad appeal for both recreational and serious riders alike. Aside from the more obvious benefits in terms of health and fitness, mountain biking offers tremendous scope to engage youngsters in a physical activity that requires skill, determination and self-reliance, and where the demands and challenges give rise to immediate rewards and a genuine sense of achievement. Whether you're a thrill-seeker, tearing down a Black Run, or simply tootling along a tow path with your mates, the options are limited only by the choice of terrain and your taste for adventure.
Regular sessions can be arranged to slot into the school's timetable, throughout the term, or over a set number of weeks, utilizing local trails, tow-paths, bridleways, and waymarked routes within striking distance. Participants will receive appropriate road safety training where road sections are unavoidable. We also take groups to regional trail centres, such as Gisburn and Grizedale, where a day in the saddle is sure to be remembered, for all the right reasons.
Trailside tuition is undertaken by qualified and experienced MBLA and NSI instructors, providing appropriate supervision and full group support. Bikes and equipment are supplied. Please note that all our instructors carry enhanced CRB disclosure, current Outdoor First Aid Certification and a seemingly endless supply of good humour, especially in the face of adversity!
Scope for Schools
At Sporting NRG, we're keen to promote mountain biking in both mainstream and specialist education, as it provides an alternative to the regular sports curriculum, while offering similar opportunities for physical exercise, enrichment and personal development. With demonstrable routes for progression, and potential towards recognized accreditation, we are able to deliver courses which can be structured according to needs and ability, in a setting which appeals to those who, for one reason or another, may not thrive in a conventional sporting sense, but given the right conditions and encouragement, often find motivation, self-discipline and the sense of accomplishment on a par with more traditional sporting activities.
